Brow Lift

We all show the signs of age in different ways, and for some, changes in the upper face are the most troublesome. Many of our patients at YES Medspa & Cosmetic Surgery Centre come to us concerned about looking tired or tense due to a forehead that is lined, or brows that have drooped down or have always been too low. The brows are of critical importance to framing the eyes and contributing to a rested and youthful appearance. For these concerns, a brow lift at our Vancouver area practice may be the solution.

Keep in mind that each patient is unique and your results may vary.

Dr. Mathew Mosher educates each of his patients on both their surgical and nonsurgical options, so that they can make an informed choice as to how to best achieve their aesthetic goals. BOTOX COSMETIC® treatments can alleviate some wrinkling in the eye area, reduce a “permanent scowl” and give a subtle lift to the brow. Dermal and facial fillers are another nonsurgical option that can add volume to sagging, wrinkled skin. For those patients who have deep creases and more extensive sagging, Dr. Mosher can perform a brow lift to reduce the deep lines, diminish frowning permanently and elevate the fallen brow to a more youthful position which optimizes the framing of your eyes. The brow is lifted to a natural position and shape that avoids a “surprised” or “startled” expression that many patients are fearful of obtaining.

About Brow Lift

Brow lift is a surgical procedure that is performed to restore a more youthful and refreshed look by improving the appearance of:

  • A sagging forehead
  • Brows that hang low over the eyes, creating a heavy or “hooded” appearance
  • Deep frown lines between the eyebrows or across the forehead

Dr. Mosher can take years off of a patient’s appearance by restoring a relaxed shape and position of the brow and modifying the over-active muscles which cause the tense, aged and tired look. If you have sagging skin and tissue in the upper and lower face, you may also want to consider a facelift.

Your Brow Lift Procedure

Dr. Mosher will customize your procedure depending on your anatomy, the degree of sagging, and your personal preference. He performs brow lift surgery as an outpatient procedure using the following methods:

Coronal

This is the “traditional” brow lift, less commonly used today, and is appropriate for patients with a large degree of wrinkling and sagging, and those who have excess skin that needs to be removed. The incision runs across the top of the scalp from ear to ear, and is hidden within the hairline. This approach allows for modification of the forehead muscles as well as repositioning of tissues and removal of excess skin. This method lifts the hairline as well, and thus may not be appropriate for those whose forehead is already tall. In this situation the incision can be placed discreetly along the frontal hairline and actually reduce the height of the forehead and diminish the visible balding areas in the temples on selected patients.

Endoscopic

This approach uses a tiny camera and delicate instruments inserted through 4 or 5 small incisions in the scalp. In this procedure, the brow is repositioned and the underlying muscles are modified, but no excess skin is removed. Temporary supportive anchors known as Entotines are used and completely dissolve in a few months after the brow position has become stable.

Transpalpebral

The transpalpebral brow lift is performed through incisions made only in the upper eyelid creases. This method is appropriate for those whose main concern is a heavy brow position but do not want a more extensive brow repositioning through incisions in the scalp. This approach is ideal for men with receded hairlines or when it is combined with BOTOX® injections to reduce the frown lines. This type of brow lift can be performed alone, but is commonly performed in conjunction with upper eyelid surgery.

Recovery and Results

Discomfort following a brow lift at our Vancouver area practice is typically mild, and medications will help you manage this. You may experience bruising and light sensitivity that lasts from 7 to 10 days. Swelling will diminish over the course of 1 to 3 weeks, and numbness of the scalp is rare but can last up to several months. Many of our Vancouver area brow lift patients are back to work after about a week, looking more refreshed, alert, and happy.
