Rhinoplasty is intended to give an attractive nasal shape that is more proportional to your other features.

• The procedure is done on an outpatient basis under a light general anesthetic.
• Open Rhinoplasty: This technique is used when changes are required to the tip and dorsum of the nose. Incisions are placed inside the nose and across the columella (the straight portion between your nostrils).
• Tip-plasty: This only addresses the cartilage in the tip of the nose and again often involves a small incision across the columella.
• Standard Rhinoplasty: All incisions are inside the nose and changes are made to the bones, cartilage, and soft tissues as needed.
• Septorhinoplasty: This surgery addresses the outer shape of the nose as well as the septum which divides the two airways. This will improve obstructions to breathing as well as straighten the nose shape.

• You will be sent home on the day of your surgery with a light dressing and a splint over the nose.
• Packing inside the nose for two to four days is usually needed when changes to the septum have been made.
• Discomfort is usually minor and well controlled with pain medication.
• Swelling and bruising will subside in seven to ten days. Final swelling of the nose takes six months to resolve.

Other facial procedures can be considered at the same time if appropriate.
