Improved contour of the chest can often be achieved with liposuction, which is used in most cases and may be all that is required.

Over-enlargement of the male breast (gynecomastia) is usually a source of embarrassment regardless of the age at which this develops.

Primary gynecomastia occurs during puberty and is without a known cause. Fortunately, the breast enlargement is often limited and improves over three to five years.

Secondary gynecomastia occurs in adult males and can affect up to 50% of males during their lifetime.

Gynecomastia does not usually indicate any form of disease but your doctor should assess this. Very rarely, male breast cancer can occur. Some medications, marijuana, and obesity are among the factors that aggravate this condition.

The enlargement is often a combination of fatty tissue and breast glandular tissue. Improved contour of the chest can often be achieved with liposuction. Ultrasonic liposuction is usually used in all cases and may be all that is required.

If there is loose skin or a large component of glandular tissue, the excess will need to be surgically removed. This is usually done through a discreet incision at the border of the areola.
