Many of the earliest signs of
aging occur around our eyes and forehead. Gravity causes the
brow tissue to fall slowly. We compensate for this by
contracting the forehead muscle more and more. This results
in a false appearance of excess upper eyelid skin, hooded
skin overhanging the eye corner, and transverse lines on the
forehead.
Other muscle over-activity
results in frown lines and creases across the bridge of our
nose. Each of these changes occurs to a different degree in
all of us. The result is someone who looks older, more
tired, and even inappropriately angry or sad. Restoring a
relaxed shape and position of the brow and modifying the
over-active muscles can have a dramatic effect on our
appearance.

- If you have sagging
forehead or brows that hang too low and close to the
eyes. Often this is
contributing to the overhang of skin seen on the upper
eyelid. This is not corrected properly with upper eyelid
surgery alone.
- If you have developed
deep frown lines (between the brows) or worry lines
(across the forehead).
|
- A more youthful and
rested appearance to the forehead and upper lids.
The operation is done
as an outpatient procedure in
our private surgical
facility under light general anesthesia or with sedation
and local anesthetic.
The operation is
usually done using an endoscope (a small lighted
telescope that is attached to a camera). Four or five
small incisions are made behind the hairline to insert
the endoscope and then delicate instruments are used to
reposition the brow and modify the underlying muscles.
If your main concern is
frown lines between your eyebrows, a limited endoscopic
procedure can be performed to correct these problems. If
you are having upper eyelid surgery
performed, it may
also be possible to treat frown lines by way of the
incisions that are made in the upper eyelid.
In some instances, an
incision is made across the top of the scalp, beginning
above the ears and hidden in the hair. Sometimes, the
incision may be placed at the front of the hairline or
the middle of the scalp. The incision is designed to be
inconspicuous when it is healed.
Dr. Mosher
will discuss
with you the best placement of incisions for your face.
