Skin and Medspa Questions

What is Dr. Mosher’s role in the Medspa?

Dr. Mathew Mosher is the founder of YES Medspa & Cosmetic Surgery Centre. He is a Fellow of the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada in Plastic Surgery. Dr. Mosher personally performs all minimally invasive facial rejuvenation treatments, including laser skin resurfacing and BOTOX COSMETIC® injections. He is responsible for training and directing our estheticians in performing Medspa services to ensure safety and quality results.

What is a Prescription for Beauty™?

Unique to YES Medspa & Cosmetic Surgery Centre, your Prescription for Beauty™ is a customized plan we develop for achieving and maintaining your facial rejuvenation. It may include cosmetic surgery, non-surgical treatments and home skin care products available at our clinic near Vancouver.

Do I have to be a cosmetic surgery patient to have Medspa services?

While many of our clients have discovered us after a cosmetic surgery procedure with Dr. Mosher, we look forward to helping you look your best whether you’re interested in surgery or not. With such a wide variety of Medspa treatments available, we strive to give you the best possible results through the least invasive approach.

How do the results of non-surgical treatments compare to surgery?

In Vancouver, non-surgical skin care treatments can provide very dramatic changes in a person’s appearance. However, the changes are typically not as substantial or long-lasting as those from surgery. Many people choose to refresh their looks with less-invasive measures in order to postpone surgery. Others use non-surgical treatments to maintain or improve upon their results from surgery. Depending on your goals and available recovery time, you may benefit from one or both techniques.

What factors influence facial aging?

Skin changes are influenced by sun exposure (UV or photo-damage), genetic factors, environmental exposure such as smoke and pollution, skin diseases such as rosacea and many other causes. Solar damage is an extremely important factor. Although awareness of this fact is improving, increased outdoor activities and a thinning ozone layer contribute to these unwanted skin changes – even in patients in their 20s and 30s. A comprehensive skin analysis can determine your skin health and identify environmental damage before it is even visible.

With so many products and procedures available, how do I decide what I need for my skin?

When you visit us for any facial concern, from skin care to laser treatments, we begin by performing a computerized VISIA® Complexion Analysis. With this system we can thoroughly evaluate the condition of your skin and develop a personalized treatment plan for you that includes procedures and products. You can decide which options to pursue based on your budget and your available time.

What are BOTOX COSMETIC® treatments and are they safe?

BOTOX COSMETIC® treatments involve injecting a muscle-relaxing agent that works by blocking nerve impulses that control muscle contractions. The safety of BOTOX® treatments has been extensively studied for several years, and research has shown that it is safe when used correctly. However, women who are pregnant or breastfeeding are advised to avoid BOTOX® treatments, because the effects on the unborn child are unknown. BOTOX® injections have been used for more than 20 years in medicine for non-cosmetic purposes, including muscle spasms.

Will BOTOX® injections make me look “frozen”?

Many people worry that BOTOX® treatments will leave them looking unnatural and expressionless. In reality, unfavorable results from BOTOX® treatments are typically caused by inexperience and poor injection technique on behalf of the provider. When performed properly, BOTOX® injections can give a very pleasing and natural result. Dr. Mosher personally performs BOTOX® treatments to ensure subtle and realistic enhancements for his patients. He has extensive training and experience performing BOTOX® injections to rejuvenate your facial appearance without achieving a “fake” or “overdone” outcome.

What’s the difference between dermal fillers and BOTOX® treatments?

Although dermal fillers and BOTOX® treatments can help reduce wrinkles and create a younger-looking appearance, they differ in their specific uses. Voluma, Restylane®, Perlane®, and JUVÉDERM® dermal fillers are made from hyaluronic acid and are used to add volume to the skin and soft tissues. These treatments are best restoring a youthful facial shape, lip enhancement, deep facial expression lines and under-eye hollowing. Dermal fillers generally last from 6 to 12 months but can last even longer.

BOTOX® treatments, on the other hand, do not add volume to the skin. Instead, it softens facial creases by relaxing the muscles that cause wrinkles. BOTOX® treatments are especially effective for softening forehead lines and crow’s feet, but they can also be used to control excessive sweating as well as a variety of other medical indications. The results of BOTOX® treatments usually last 3 months or longer.
